Juveline Joyce Micham’s first day on earth was March 1, 1932 and first day in heaven was December 2, 2022. She was born to Robert “Bobby” Ray and Ruby Bertner (Anderson) Park in Ramon, New Mexico and her original birth certificate said, “Unnamed Female Park” with her unique, beautiful name fittingly being given weeks later as Juveline Joyce Park. Her dad called her “Jude” and many called her “Judy” through the years. She was the third born out of nine children, all born in New Mexico. Her older siblings were Travis Lee and Walter Truman; younger siblings were twins, Virgil Ray and Vestal Clay; twins, Velta Faye and Veida Mae; youngest sister and brother, Bobbie Jo and Chester Gail. The family lived in New Mexico, Texas, and Colorado. Juveline spent several of her younger years in DeBeque, Colorado graduating from high school at 16 and receiving a scholarship to attend college in Greeley for a year. She met George Wilbur Bailey from Grand Valley or Parachute and they married after his service in Korea and for our country in the US Army. They were united in marriage on December 31, 1951 in Glenwood Springs. After living in Denver a short time, then moving to DeBeque and Grand Junction area, they had 4 children: twins, Dean Lee and Debra Lou, Teresa Lynn, and Lori Ann. The family moved to Hartsel in 1967 to run the Hartsel Hotel for over 2 years.. When her husband died in 1969, Juveline decided to move to Prescott, Arizona with their 4 children, eventually running another restaurant business for a few years, then back to Colorado. On April 14, 1979 she married Harold Micham, and lived in Colorado, Arkansas, and Missouri during their 37 years of marriage. She became widowed again in 2016 and moved to Oklahoma in 2018 to live with her daughter, Debra, but visiting and living with her other daughters in Colorado and her son in Arizona for a few weeks or months at a time over a period of 4 years. This last year, her 90th, she stayed with all 4 of her children, insisting on going to her son’s home for Thanksgiving and where it was warm. Juveline passed away in his Florence home on December 2nd as the sun was rising on a beautiful, sunny day with her twins, Dean and Debra, by her side.
Through the years, Juveline worked as a telephone operator; as a cashier/clerk at stores; for H&R Block for a short time, and then doing taxes for family and friends for several years; as a cook, etc. at her own businesses and her brother’s when needed; taught herself to do upholstery work; worked at a gas company as a bookkeeper; worked at a county assessor’s and county clerk’s office, even ran for county clerk one year in Fairplay, Colorado; made and decorated cakes, particularly for weddings and birthdays; got her real estate license in Colorado and worked for Colorado and Missouri businesses, then received her real estate broker’s license, opening her own office in Thayer, Missouri and retiring after many years. Her favorite job was being a homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother and aunt, teaching by example and living the saying, “Cleanliness is next to Godliness” with spring cleaning being every Saturday. She made most of her children’s clothes as they grew up, particularly Easter and Christmas dresses for her daughters and many times for nieces too, even shirts for her son. She also crocheted blankets for all of her children and grandchildren and made many beautiful quilts that she lovingly gave to family and friends. “Aunt Judy" willingly took in several nephews and nieces to help care for them during different times of their lives also. Juveline was an avid reader with over a thousand books, collected beautiful dolls, and loved to travel. She visited family and friends in Utah,Texas, Arizona, Missouri, Colorado, Oklahoma, Kansas, Georgia, and North Carolina throughout the years. Juveline especially enjoyed playing dominoes, cards, Scrabble, dice and board games with everyone. After turning 90, she miraculously made two more long trips: one to Colorado to be with all 4 of her children at her daughter’s wedding and then to Arizona 5 months later to be with her son and daughter-in-law in the warmth of the sunshine.
Juveline lived through a great deal of hardships and tragedy during her lifetime, being born during the years of the Great Depression and preceded in death by her parents, all of her siblings, two husbands, her granddaughter, Tonya, and many other family members and friends. She is survived by her children, Dean (Manya) Bailey, Debra Smith, Teresa (Jeff) Johnson, Lori (Mike) South; 11 grandchildren: Chad, Shona, Jason, Kaylean, Mandy, Kristy, Eric, Stephanie, Melanie, Sara, and Taralyn; 28 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren; 2 sister-in-laws, many nephews and nieces, and other family and friends.
