

Kay was born February 27, 1938 in Lawrence, Kansas the daughter of Edwin Collins and Aleta Lucile (Soxman) Nelson. She spent her childhood in Great Bend, Kansas and then graduated from Cherry Creek High School in Cherry Creek, CO. She then attended Westminster College in Salt Lake City. She also lived in Washington DC, Lancaster, Canada, Gaithersburg, Manassas, Springfield, MO and Rangely, CO. During her working career she was an administrative assistant at Deserado Mine and retired as a bank teller at First National Bank of the Rockies. She was a resident of Rangely for 39 years.
She married Jack Strain and he preceded her in death November 8, 1988 and she married Charles M. Cudo on March 27, 1982 in Rangely, CO and he preceded her in death November 6, 2012.
Kay enjoyed hiking, hunting, four wheeling, fishing, camping, crocheting, and baking.
Survivors include her sons, Craig Strain of Omaha, NE, Scott Strain of Maple Shade, NJ; stepsons Todd Cudo of Onalaska, WI, Samm Cudo of Rangely, CO and daughters Peri Braunagel of Gillette, WY, Renee Collins of Fruita, CO, Amy Elder of Rangely, CO; sisters Debbie Esposito of Philadelphia, PA, Linda Nelson Whitman of Santa Barbara, CA; 16 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband’s, parents, and a sister Karen Stewart.
A Celebration of Life Luncheon for Kay will be held Friday, March 24, 2017 at 1:00 PM at the Rangely Elks Lodge. Burial will be held privately.
