

Katherine Louise Headdy, age 82 of Grand Junction, CO, passed away surrounded by family and a few close friends on Thursday, April 9, 2026 at St. Mary’s Hospital. Katherine was born on June 5, 1943 in Baytown, TX to Charles Robert Saunders and Harriett Louise Robinson. In 1948, she moved to Los Alamos, NM where she lived for forty-nine years and worked as a Protocol and Special Event Coordinator at the Los Alamos National Laboratory where she directed the visits of numerous dignitaries and government officials. After twenty-three years at the national laboratory, she retired and moved to Grand Junction, CO in 1997 where she enjoyed the designing and building of a new home with her husband of forty-three years Winfred Lee Headdy. Kathy enjoyed traveling, gardening, cooking, camping and spending as much time with her family as possible, especially her grandchildren. Kathy was a proud member of the national sorority Delta Delta Delta (Tri-Delta).
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Harriett; and her husband, Winfred.
Survivors include her beloved children, Holly Laing and husband Aaron of Grand Junction, CO; Sharon Mills and husband Bill of Los Alamos, NM; her sisters Sherrie Burk of Albuquerque, NM; Dottie Austin and husband Larry of Las Cruces, NM; her grandchildren, Taylor Laing of Des Moines, IA, Morgan Laing of Cheyenne, WY, Paige Early of AK, and Nathan Anderson of TX. Kathy is also survived by numerous nephews and a niece.
