Lois June Bell of Grand Junction, Colorado, passed away at Hope West on July 30, 2021. She was 74 years old. Lois was born in Ava, Missouri, on May 8, 1947, to Harvey and Alvina Bell. She was the youngest of 7 children. Lois was born with Down syndrome and her parents lovingly chose to raise her as they had their other children, expecting nothing from her but her best. The family moved to Colorado when Lois was in grade school as the dry climate here was better for her health.
After graduating from Central High School Lois worked a variety of jobs at the Regional Center, Goodwill Workshop, Best Western Motel, Mesa County Public Library and United Way of Mesa County, to name a few. She enjoyed participating in community service organizations and activities, especially with Kiwanis, Aktion Club, People First, Special Olympics, and Just for the Fun of It. Lois was an avid reader who enjoyed reading scriptures, westerns, mysteries and self-improvement books. She enjoyed music, loved to play her guitar and listen to gospel or country/western music. She was particularly fond of watching old westerns, especially John Wayne westerns, and was a loyal Broncos fan. Lois attended church regularly and was baptized into the Church of Christ. She studied the scriptures with her parents as well as independently and always believed God would help show her the way. Lois loved being with family and friends and going on picnics. She had a knack for remembering the birthdays of all her extended family and faithfully sent cards with a handwritten Bible verse. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Services will be held at Martin Mortuary on August 9, 2021. Visitation is open to all at 9:00 AM and the service will start at 10:00 AM. A graveside service will follow at the Orchard Mesa Cemetery. If you wish, memorial contributions may be made in Lois’ name to United Way of Mesa County, PO Box 153 Grand Junction, CO 81502 www.unitedwaymesacounty.com; or to the Church of Christ (Temple Lot) c/o Kathy Larsen, 3043 B Road, Grand Junction, CO 81503.
