Mary Lou Dunn
May 28, 1925 - January 30, 2016
Mary Lou Engeberg was the first child born to Roy and Helen Engeberg in Glendale, California, on May 28, 1925. During the Great Depression, Mary Lou and her parents lived with Roy's parents in North Dakota. She was joined by a brother, Howard, on September 25, 1929; and while he was still a baby, the family moved to Mosca, Colorado. Mary Lou attended grade school in Mosca, high school at Campion Academy in Loveland, Colorado, and college at La Sierra College, Riverside, California.
On May 28, 1945, Mary Lou married James Dunn, also a resident of Mosca, Colorado. Mary Lou and Jim had been classmates at Mosca Elementary School since early grade school and became ""acquainted"" when Jim dipped Mary Lou's pigtails in the inkwell on his school desk.
They lived in Angwin, California, while Jim finished his college education, and in Loma Linda and Los Angeles, California, while he completed his medical education. They spent one year in Denver, Colorado, while Jim finished his medical residency, and in 1954, moved to Grand Junction, Colorado.
Mary Lou was very active in Seventh Day Adventist Churches wherever they lived, teaching young children's Sabbath School classes, directing the Chancel Choir, and playing the piano and organ for services. She loved to entertain and hosted many dinners and parties for friends, church members, and other organizations.
After Jim retired, Mary Lou and Jim traveled in their fifth-wheel trailer across the United States. They also went on several Maranatha Volunteers International trips, helping building churches and schools.
Mary Lou and Jim Dunn were gifted with two daughters, Janette and Julie; four granddaughters, Jennifer, Jacqueline, Kate, and Jana; and one great-grandson, Joey.
Jim passed away in 2014, and Mary Lou moved to Longmont, Colorado, to be closer to family. She passed away peacefully January 30, 2016, at Beatrice Hover Assisted Living in Longmont, Colorado.
Mary Lou is survived by daughters, Janette McKinny and Julie Thompson; son-in-law, Mike Thompson; granddaughter, Jennifer (James) Parker; great-grandson, Joey Parker; granddaughters, Jacqueline and Jana McKinny, and Kate Thompson and finance, Jeff Harrison; brother, Howard (Carolyn) Engeberg; and sister-in-law, Sally Phegley.
