Maxine Loraine Gilligan Aubert was born in Sunnyside, Utah December 12, 1922 to Willard George Gilligan and Laurel Laurany Duke. She grew up in Sunnyside, Utah in a small coal mining community with three sisters and two brothers where the girls became known as the Giggling Gilligans. Maxine grew up during the Great Depression and life proved to be difficult with the loss of her parents at a young age.
Maxine triumphed, and graduated from Price High School where she was known for her beautiful red hair, contagious smile, and energetic personality. After graduation she worked hard to be able to attend LDS Business College in Salt Lake City. She used her secretarial and bookkeeping skills at various times during her life but her greatest joy was service to her family as a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker.
Maxine married August Ambrose Aubert in Logan, Utah and plunged headfirst into life as a stockman's wife. In the summer she lived in a small cabin with no electricity or running water. She made a warm and loving home for their four children. Some of the many fond memories were her homemade bread and how she would build a fire in the fireplace every morning hanging the children's clothes over the fireplace screen so the cabin and the children would be warm when they got out of bed.
During the school year the family lived in Grand Junction, Colorado, Maxine was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and had a firm testimony of His gospel. She served in various capacities in the Relief Society, Young Women, and Primary. She was active in community affairs and served as President of the Woolgrowers Association. She was known for her service to others, always bringing someone a meal, cleaning a home, or providing transportation for those that needed help. Her smile and her natural ability made others feel valued and loved and was one of her greatest attributes. She was determined to live one hundred years and enjoyed sharing historical events she experienced in her lifetime.
Maxine is preceded in death by her husband August (Augie) Aubert, son Michael (Mickey) Aubert, three sisters Lois Passic, Jeanine Hillabrant, and Shirley Bent; and one brother Morris Gilligan.
She is survived by her brother Richard Nichols (Barbara) of Paradise Valley, Arizona, three daughters Camille Ficklin of Grand Junction, Kim Aubert Larson of Highland, Utah and Chele Hawks (Dave) of Grand Junction. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter who inherited her red hair and name. She will be remembered as a loving mother, friend, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and devoted wife.
