Nicholas J Abeyta passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family on August 23, 2023. He was born in Durango, CO on December 10, 1936, but was a longtime resident of Grand Junction, CO.
Nicholas was a proud Army Veteran and worked for the Railroad for 33 years. He married Ruby Mendoza on August 4th, 1964. They have celebrated 59 years together.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby; his children, Nicholas Marc Abeyta (Doreen), Laura Davis, Vincent Abeyta (Raji), Anita Abeyta, Rita Abeyta, Olivia Hamilton (Gary), and Roman Abeyta (Gina); 12 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.
Nicholas was a beloved Christian man and strongly believed in his faith. He attended St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. He loved gardening, spending time with family, playing his guitar, and listening to music.
Nicholas was loved beyond measure and will be missed more than words can say.
His rosary is scheduled for Thursday, August 31, at 7 PM at Callahan Edfast Mortuary. A Funeral Service will be held Friday, September 1, at 10 AM at St Joseph’s Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Orchard Mesa Cemetery. Reception to follow at St Joseph’s Parish Hall.
