It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the passing of Paul Leo Chavez Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who passed away peacefully on Friday, June 6, 2025, in Grand Junction, Colorado, at the age of 83.
Paul was born on October 7, 1941, in Alamosa, Colorado. He lived a life filled with joy, hard work, and unwavering dedication to his family. As a devoted provider for his family of ten, Paul always held two jobs, balancing his role as a journeyman moulder at Denver Equipment with his passion for cooking as a chef at the Officers Club. His love for preparing delicious food was one of the many ways he brought joy to others. Paul was married for 63 years to Mary Jane Chavez.
Later in life, Paul founded Chavez Cleaning Company—a family-owned and operated business that became a testament to his entrepreneurial spirit and strong work ethic. He took great pride in passing on these values to his children, always encouraging them to believe in themselves and strive for anything they set their minds to.
Paul faced life’s challenges with unmatched positivity and resilience. Even as he battled kidney failure and underwent dialysis for three years, he remained optimistic and full of heart. During the final two years of his life, Paul lived in Grand Junction, where his son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren lovingly cared for him. His grandchildren brought light and laughter to his days, keeping him young at heart.
Paul’s greatest joy was his family. He was happiest when surrounded by his beloved wife Mary Jane Chavez, his children, and grandchildren. He gave love unconditionally and was known for the warmth and kindness he showed to everyone he met.
Paul is preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph and Fedalina Chavez; his brothers, Julio and Timothy; and his son, George Chavez. He is survived by his brother, Richard Chavez, and devoted wife Mary Jane, and his loving children: Paul Jr., Wendy, Richard, Tammy, Angelic, Melissa, Joe, and Nicholas.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dialysis Clinic Inc. (DCI) for the compassionate care provided to Paul during his treatment, and to Juan and Jazmine for their tender, loving support in his final years.
A celebration of Paul’s life will be held on Friday, June 13th at 3:00 PM at Martin’s Mortuary in Grand Junction, Colorado. All who knew and loved Paul are welcome to attend and honor the legacy of a truly remarkable man.
