Roger was born on August 23, 1925, in Elmira, New York, to Paul Shappee and Sara Brown. He spent his childhood in Corning, NY, where he graduated from high school. Roger then attended Pasadena City College in Pasadena, CA, where he earned his AA degree. In 1943, Roger joined the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1946, serving as an Aviation Electronics Technician's Mate Second Class.
After his time in the military, Roger married Betty J. Dixon on June 21, 1947, in Escondido, CA. He went on to work as a District Manager in the telecommunications industry and was an active member of the Methodist Church.
Roger is preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty, and daughter, Anita. He is survived by his son, Curtis E. Shappee (Manhattan, NY), and his daughter, Candace Parton (Grand Junction, CO).
