

Ruth was born on June 28, 1915 in Castlewood, South Dakota, to Allen and Caroline (Shanks) Curtis. She grew up in South Dakota and attended high school in Aberdeen. She graduated from Yankton College with a BA, before going on to obtain a degree at Minnesota University and begin a career as a medical technologist.
She fell in love with and then married Weston P. Edfast on August 13, 1944. They celebrated nearly 50 anniversaries together before he passed in 1993. They spent many years together in Pueblo, Colorado, where they adopted their two children before finally settling down in Grand Junction.
She spent many years traveling extensively across the United States and internationally. She was a member of Eastern Star, a lifelong member of AAUW and PEO, as well as being a founding member of the VMCCA Chapter of Western Colorado. She was also a longtime and very active member of the First Congregational Church.
She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Weston; and brothers, Neil, Malcolm, and Charles Currie. She is survived by her sister, Margaret (Ralph) Mosher; son, Curtis; daughter, Carolyn (Robert) Van Matre; grandchildren, Robert Van Matre and Kaitlin (William) Pierce; great-granddaughter, Chloe Pierce; many nieces, nephews, and extended family; and her loving cat, Quirk.
There will be a Celebration of Life at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 27 at the First Congregational Church with a viewing on Friday, October 26 at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary from 5:00pm-8:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to HopeWest Hospice, 3090B N. 12th Street, Grand Junction, CO 81506 or the First Congregational Church, 1425 N. 5th Street, Grand Junction, CO 81501.
