Ruth Schwaller passed away August 26, 2010 at Mantey Heights Care Center after a brief illness, she was 91.
Ruth was born on December 13, 1918 in New Rochelle, New York from the union of George O. and Mary (Johnson) Ingraham. She was raised in Long Island and started working at the age of 11 with her twin sister as models for John Robert Powers Advertising and the Hollander Dye Company receiving fifty dollars a week, which was very good money during the depression. The twin sisters became well known as the Hollander Dye Twins in the 1930’s and also did a Coke advertisement that became popular during that time.
Ruth married Bernard L. Schwaller in 1942, they later divorced and Bernard preceded Ruth in death in 1997. Ruth moved to New York City with her mother and then later to Grand Junction Colorado, where she was a resident for thirty years spending nine years at Mesa View Assisted Living. Ruth often visited her son Lee in Basalt and enjoyed meeting all his friends and visiting with relatives.
Ruth leaves behind a son; Lee Schwaller of Basalt, Co, neices; Mary Anne (Ray) Bruchez of Jupiter FL. , Sandra Cannizzo of Green Valley, AZ and Kathleen Rusling of Melbourne, Australia, a brother-in-law; Richard Calloway of Corvallis, Oregon and a nephew; Steven Calloway of Roseburg, Oregon.
Ruth was preceded in death by her twin sister; Helen Calloway and sister’s Alice and Connie.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00PM, Saturday, October 16, 2010 at The Church at Carbondale, 110 Snowmass Drive, Carbondale, CO.
