Sally Kay Walter, age 78, passed away on June 12, 2024 at her home on the ranch near Molina, Colorado surrounded by family. Sally was born in Grand Junction, Colorado on December 14, 1945 to Richard W Hallam and Patricia Hallam. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, and brother William Hallam.
Sally and her husband John were married nearly 60 years ago on December 27th, 1964. They met while attending Colorado State University in Fort Collins. John and Sally lived for a short time in Hereford, Texas after they married before they returned to John’s family farm in Crowley County Colorado. In 1973, they moved to the ranch in Bull Basin near Molina, Colorado. They raised cattle, horses and three boys: Shawn, Shane and Colton.
Sally was more than just a rancher’s wife. She was active in every aspect of the ranch from irrigating and putting up hay to feeding in the winter and working cattle and building fences – all in addition to keeping a home and being a great cook. Sally was a role model to many through her hard work, dedication, devotion, love and support of her children and her husband. She loved the ranch and over the past couple of years of being homebound, she enjoyed watching out the window and seeing the seasons change, new calves, horses running in the pastures and just appreciating her view of the Grand Mesa. Sally was active in rodeo and showing horses as a youth and passed on that love of horses on to her sons and grandchildren.
