Shirley Mae Woods

Shirley Mae Woods, age 77 of Grand Junction, Colorado, passed away unexpectedly on February 18th, 2016. She was born on July 28, 1938 in Telluride, Colorado to Martin and Mary Ellen Borcherdt.

Shirley grew up in Nucla, Colorado and graduated from Nucla High School in 1956. Shirley was married to Glen Woods in 1957; they were married for 45 years. Together they attended Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado. After Glen received his degree in 1961 they moved to Uravan, Colorado where together they worked and raised their family before relocating to Grand Junction in 1974. Shirley worked at Union Carbide in Uravan and Grand Junction for 30 years until her retirement.

Family and friends were Shirley’s passion and joy. Shirley was a devoted mother and grandmother with a loving and generous heart. Her love for life and family made her an exceptional woman, she will be missed by everyone. She enjoyed gardening, her home and playing bridge.

She was preceded in death by her husband Glen in 2003, her parents, and her brother Jerry Borcherdt. She is survived by her daughter Mary (Stan) Sparks, her son Brian (Vicki) Woods, grandchildren, Jessica Brophy, Joshua Sparks, Corey Woods, Jennifer Woods, and two great grandchildren, Grace and Avery Brophy.

Services will be held Saturday, March 5, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Martin Mortuary.
