Sigrid Hjordis Carlson June 19, 1911 – February 23, 2012 Sigrid Hjordis Carlson, daughter of Christen and Mary Carlson was born June 19, 1911, in Aspen, Colorado. She was the youngest of three children. Three things stand out in her nine years in Aspen; when news of Armistice reached Aspen. "The fire siren and mine whistles blew and blew", In 1928 the Spanish Influenza reached Aspen, and at the end of the epidemic, children coasting on a nearby hill were screaming delightedly as they watched our cow eat the quarantine sign off the side of our house. In 1920, the family moved to Rifle, Colorado where Sigrid graduated from Rifle Union High School in 1929, at the beginning of the Great Depression. In 1942, she went to work for U.S. Vanadiun Corporation, later known as Union Carbide, retiring in 1976. She enjoyed working in her flower garden, golf and bowling (she was a better bowler than golfer). Sigrid was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Runar J. Carlson, and Carl A. Carlson, and two nephews, Adrian Carlson, and F. Lee Miller. Cremation has taken place. Internment to follow at a later date in Rose Hill Cemetery, Rifle, Colorado. Memorial contributions in her name may be made to Hospice of Western Colorado. Condolences may be left for the family at www.martinmortuary.com.
