Tom Harris died Tuesday March 16, 2011 at his home in Grand Junction, Colorado. He was born on September 29, 1951 in St. Paul, MN to William Harris and Elizabeth Harris. He will be greatly missed by many friends and family. Tom married Betsy Piho in 1975 and they divorced in 2003. Tom is a 1984 graduate from University of Wisconsin-River Falls and a 1991 graduate from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He and his family moved to Grand Junction, Colorado in 1991 and he was employed as a reference librarian at Mesa State College. He loved Colorado and the Southwest and enjoyed reading, hiking, canyoneering, camping, and music. His love for music was expressed through playing drums, guitar, ukulele and of course, his famous compilation CDs. He is survived by his mother, Betty; sister, Judy (Dick) and three brothers, Bob (Carolyn), Joe (friend, Marge), and Ernie (Megan); son, Jonathan and wife, Tiffany (Kowalski) Harris and granddaughters, Ashlynn and McKenna; Jonathan's mother, Betsy Harris Krager; beloved friend and sweetheart, Judy Maki; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Bill and a brother, Don. An outdoor barbeque in Tom's honor (just what he would have liked) will be held at Long Family Memorial Park Grand Mesa Shelter on Thursday, March 31, 2011 from 3 - 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers or gifts, memorial contributions may be sent to the Thomas R. Harris Memorial Fund at Bellco Credit Union, 2478 Hwy 6 & 50, Grand Junction, CO 81505. Proceeds will go toward a special public memorial at a local park/trail in his memory.
