Willo Mae Davies November 19, 1924 - November 20, 2011 Willo was born in Green Forest, Arkansas to Maude Merle Sharp and Fred Gray Harbert along with her sister Emma Grace. At a young age, the family moved to Central Orchard Mesa, Colorado where members of both the Sharp and Harbert families lived. It was there that they all worked to carve lush fruit orchards, gardens, and a vineyard from the Rocky Mountain high desert soil. Willo attended palisade schools and had a happy childhood filled with horses, farm animals, fishing, hunting, and camping trips. Willo was a creative and talented artist in several mediums. She grew, dried, and sold flowers and created beautiful wreaths and arrangements. She taught both skills to all ages, and volunteered at the botanical gardens. Willo also painted and played violin and was president of the Brush and Palette Club, and various garden clubs. Her family was instrumental in building and maintaining Central Orchard Mesa Community Church, where she was a charter and lifetime member. Today, paintings of each phase of its history, done by Willo Mae, adorn the walls of the church. At this same church, on a snowy day December 28, 1946, she married Harold Stanley Davies. Together they continued expanding their own farming business and at one point owned the largest privately owned packing shed in Mesa County. In the 50's they adopted two children, David and Cathy. The family enjoyed traveling, camping, hunting and fishing, horse activities, and working together. Willo attended Ross Business College here in Grand Junction, and worked for firms Dalby, Wendland & Jensen, Hoskins & Farina, and Central High School for School District 51 over the years. Stan and Willo were founding members of the Farm and Ranch Market at Teller Arms and she continued to participate there until just a few years ago. She spent the last four years at The Commons and enjoyed the people and activities there. Willo is survived by her son, David (Roberta) Davies of Grand Junction, and daughter, Cate Allen and Jim Brush of Glade Park; sister, Emma Grace Griffin and her sons Gray and Tom of Utah. A nephew, Don (Sue) Lanham from Fort Collins, her delightful granddaughters, Heather (Charles) Carson of Grand Junction, Calina Logan Allen of Denver, and Crystal (Greg) Clark of Grand Junction; three great-grandchildren, Grant Landman, and Makenzie and Tyson Clark from Grand Junction. Willo loved to entertain and decorate for the holidays and seasons in grand and often whimsical style, she will be sorely missed by her loving family. A funeral service is planned for 2 p.m. on Friday, November 25, 2011 at Martin Mortuary, with a one hour visitation prior and a graveside to follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to either Central Orchard Mesa Community Church, or Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado.
