

Barbara Horton, a vibrant soul cherished by all who knew her, peacefully passed away on
Wednesday, August 9th, 2023, in Mansfield, Texas. Born on January 3rd, 1937, in Cleburne,
Texas, she was the beloved daughter of Shirel and Mabel Standridge. As the youngest of two
children, Barbara shared an unbreakable bond with her sister Clarice. The sisters shared a life
long bond filled with laughter and comfort. They were there for each other, in the best and
worst times.
From a tender age, Barbara's heart was captured by the enchanting world of
music, reading, and learning igniting a lifelong passion that would shape her journey until the
end. Her earliest memories were of piano lessons and singing in church that ignited the spark
of creativity within her. With unwavering dedication she read anything non fiction she could to
help her learn as much as possible.
In 1957, Barbara found a lifetime of love in Tommy Horton, and their union bloomed for 36
remarkable years. Barbara earned a Bachelor of Science in Education with Honors from North
Texas State. Her commitment to knowledge fueled her career as an educator, a calling she
embraced over 30 inspiring years in the classroom, her passion for teaching radiated in every
interaction, leaving an indelible mark on countless lives. Barbara’s summers were spent
traveling the country or sitting on the beach reading and watching Tommy fish. In retirement
she and her cat Lady enjoyed reading and taking online courses. She was a wonderful mother
and even more amazing grandmother.
Barbara's legacy is carried forward by her adoring grandchildren, Morgan Horton-Dandridge,
Jeffrey Nelson, Jacob Horton, Aeron Horton, Grace Horton, and Ruby Horton; her great-grandchildren,
Ava and Mason Dandridge, Marceline, Ellis, and Carter Horton, honor her
memory with joy. The torch of her legacy is also upheld by her grandson-in-law, Bret Dandridge;
granddaughter-in-law, Jordynn Horton, and Haley Gardner. The flame of Barbara's dedication to
education and love for learning will continue to illuminate the lives of those she touched.
Preceding her into eternity, Barbara joins her sister, Clarice Annette; along with her parents,
Shirel and Mabel Standridge; and beloved niece, Alisa Wooten
The honor of carrying Barbara's legacy rests with her grandsons, Jacob Horton, Aeron Horton,
Jeffrey Nelson, Bret Dandridge, and Mason Dandridge who will serve as pallbearers during the
proceedings.
A heartfelt celebration of Barbara's well-lived life will take place at the Bean-Massey-Burge
Funeral Home on Beltline Road in Grand Prairie, on Saturday, August 19th. Commencing at
10:00 AM, a viewing will provide an opportunity for loved ones to pay their respects, followed
by the funeral service at 11:00 AM. A final tribute will be held with a graveside service at Rose
Hill Cemetery in Cleburne, a place that holds the memories of her formative years.
In the symphony of life, Barbara played a profound and beautiful melody, touching hearts and
minds with her wisdom and kindness. Her legacy resonates through the lives she enriched, and
her memory will forever remain a guiding light for those who knew and loved her.
