Charles Curtis Bancroft, Sr., age 85, of Grand Prairie, Texas passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, May 14, 2022 after a short battle with lung cancer. He was born in Kelso, Arkansas on July 26, 1936 to Joe and Alice Bancroft.
Charles married Lena Mae Richardson on November 28, 1953.
Charles had an entrepreneurial spirit, hard work and tenacity enabled him to build Bancroft and Sons Transportation, one of the largest contract transporters of U.S. mail in the United States. As a result of his determined work ethic and attention to detail, Bancroft and Sons dominates the mail transportation sector, with over 200 trucks transporting tractor trailer loads of U.S. mail coast to coast.
Charles had a passion for baseball and loved spending most of this time with family and playing with his grandchildren. He loved to attend his grandkids’ baseball or softball games any chance he could. He especially never missed the opportunity to attend Opening Day for the Texas Rangers. Christmas gatherings and Easter egg hunts were especially fun for him. He was all about his family and dedicated the majority of his life providing for them.
Charles was preceded in death by his brothers; E.J. and Tommy; sisters Josephine and Betty; a son, Michael James; and a grandson, Austin Bryn.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Lena; his four sons, Charles, Jr., Howard (Tamie), Billy (Vi) and John David (Kimberly); brother, Billy Joe; sister, Pat; grandchildren, Charles III, Amber, Amanda, Jessica, Kendra, Jordan, Cody, Ashley, Lauren, Dustin, Presley, Bethany, Casey, Megan, Madison, Makenzie, Sonny and Blake; great grandchildren, Mikayla, Lindsay, Tripp, Cameron, Seth, Charlie, Kaden, Alaina, Symbri, Mylee, Adisyn, Joel, Rush, Jackson, Emma, Stella, Cash, Kingston, Dayton, Aiden, Hunter, Alizabeth, Emily, Zephie, Skylar and Brooks.
Our family would like to extend a special thank you to Malcolm Hernandez and Efren Castellanos for all the tender loving care of our father. Charles loved you both like sons and I know he is thankful for all the undivided love, care and personal sacrifices you made to make him time here as special as it could be till his last day.
