George William (AKA Bill) Vick, 76, slipped the surly bonds of Earth... and touched the face of God on March 15, 2026 in Carrollton, TX after navigating Alzheimer’s with dignity and humor for many years.
He was born in Selma, Alabama on October 19, 1949, to George Willard Vick and Almalene Vick. He spent his childhood years living in Selma and moved to Mobile in his teens. After high school graduation, Bill joined the Army and went on to serve in a Special Forces unit in Vietnam. After he was discharged from the Army in 1971, Bill decided to seek his fortune in California. On his way to California, he stopped in the visit his Aunt Winnie in Houston, Texas. While there, he met his soulmate and best friend for life, Sharon Hyde. They were married in October 1971 and spent the next 54 years living their best life. They had two daughters, Rebecca and Pamela.
Bill re-entered the Army in 1972 as an Army Ranger and that started their great life adventure as a couple. They went on to live in Colorado, Washington, Georgia, Florida, Alaska, Massachusetts, Alabama, the Panama Canal, Greece and Germany. After serving 10 years in Special Forces or Ranger units, Bill went to Flight School and learned to fly both helicopters and fixed wing aircraft and spent another 14 years as a pilot.
When Bill retired from the Army, he and Sharon spent a year traveling the United States in their small 5th-wheel camper and ultimately settled in Eagle Pass, Texas where Bill flew an air ambulance for a year. Deciding he was getting too old to make those late-night, all-night flights in and out of the country, he became an instructor for Flight Safety International so he could be home every night with his beloved Sharon. Bill retired again in 2010 and they settled in Arp, TX. Later as Bill's health deteriorated, he and Sharon moved to Carrollton, TX to be near family.
In the years after Bill retired from the Army, he and Sharon traveled throughout the States or overseas to China, Africa, and Germany. Bill was a restless soul who always wanted to see what was around the next corner.
Bill is survived by his wife, Sharon; their two children: Rebecca Vick and Pamela Asmus; five grandchildren: Natasha, Jessica, Brittany, Sarah, and Emily; one great grandchild: Anastasia; and a sister, Linda Erwin.
The family will have a celebration of life in Carrollton and a military burial at the Dallas-Ft Worth National Cemetery in Dallas, TX.
