Mr. Gerald Cash, affectionately known as “Jay”, was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on August 13, 1939 to the late Jerry Griggs and the late Mariam Dixon-Cash. He was one of three children.
In 1958, Gerald graduated from Allegheny High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and entered the United States Air Force shortly after. He served proudly in the Air Force and his commitment to his country was unwavering. He earned a Honorable discharge for his service, leadership, and bravery. Following his distinguished military service, the Lord led him to the Miracle Temple Church of God In Christ in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior in 1962.
As Gerald continued his spiritual journey and profession of Christian faith, he found favor with the Lord by uniting in Holy Matrimony to Barbara A. Davis on August 18, 1964. They were blessed years later with one beautiful daughter, Shevaughn Cash.
God blessed Gerald with many gifts and talents which he humbly used to serve the Body of Christ. As a result, he felt the call of God on his life to minister the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He subsequently accepted that call and election from the Lord. He was ordained as an Elder in the Church of God In Christ in the mid-1980s. Gerald served as the Assistant Sunday School Superintendent at the Miller Memorial Church of God in Detroit, Michigan for several years. In 2002, Elder Cash and his wife relocated to Dallas, Texas. They became members of the Potter's House in 2003. Elder Cash served in several ministerial capacities at the Potter's House, such as the Mega Care Ministry, Sales Ministry, Men’s Ministry, and New Members' Ministry.
Higher Education was a huge priority and valued commodity for Gerald. He attended and graduated from the University of Detroit earning a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Business Administration during the years of 1970-1974. His 30-year plus career in business was marked by several prestigious positions and with several large corporations such as Electronic Data Systems, where he worked as a System Implementation Manager, Michigan's HMO Plans, Inc. ,as a Vice President/Director, and Advance Business Analytics as a Asset Manager. In addition to his outstanding career, Gerald worked as a Licensed Real Estate Broker and Licensed Insurance Broker.
Gerald enjoyed several past-times and hobbies which included swimming, football, playing pool, cooking, trying new recipes, reading books but most of all reading the Word of God. One of his favorite scriptures in the Bible was Psalms 37:18- “The Lord knows the days of the upright: and their inheritance shall be forever.” His favorite song was “Take me to the King”
As we conclude Elder Cash’s Celebration of A Life Well Lived, his name was not just Gerald Cash, but a name that was a testament to the vibrant, inspirational life he led. He had a zest for life that was infectious and a spirit that was indomitable. He found joy in the simplest things, and in doing so, taught us all to appreciate those little moments that make life so beautiful. He was a man of courage, of compassion and boundless love. He was hard working and a dedicated man of Faith who put God, his wife and family first. Elder Cash just didn’t live for the happiness of himself but for the happiness of others. He will always be remembered for his “BIG” Smile and the Joy he brought to everyone he knew. He was a Principled man of Integrity and of good character. He has left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to have known him. As we bid farewell to our dear brother, husband, father and friend, let us not lose ourselves in the sorrow of loss but rather find comfort in the memories we shared and the hope we have in Jesus Christ that we will see him again.
His memory and legacy will be forever cherished by his loving wife of 60 years, Barbara A. Cash, Grand Prairie, Texas; his daughter, Shevaughn Cash, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; his granddaughter, Tarreez Cash, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; one grandson, Gerald Alexander Cash, who preceded him in death; six great-grandchildren,one brother, William (Billy) Cash, California, his late sister Olivia White and a host of cousins, sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, nieces, nephews and a tremendous array of friends.
