She was born on November 6, 1924, in Marion County, Arkansas, to W.A. and Ola James.
Gerrie was the youngest of three daughters. She told stories about growing up on a farm. Once when she visited the milk barn with her parents she was chased by a goose all the way back to the house. She enjoyed playing on the hill across from her house with her best friend, going to church, visiting her grandparents, school ballgames, and going to state fairs. Her fondest memory is of winning an award for her writing. She was the salutatorian of her high school graduation class.
She also enjoyed going camping and fishing with her close and extended family members.
Her father was a preacher at their church where Gerrie assisted with many church activities with her sisters.
She longed to played the piano at church and she finally got her wish. She loved playing the piano and played even up to her death.
She loved her family and loved spending time with them. She always welcomed family and friends into her home and enjoyed traveling to visit them as well.
Gerrie is predeceased by her parents, W.A. and Ola James, her sisters, Essel and Guida, her husband, Bud Allen, and granddaughter, Alisha Johnson.
She is survived by her daughter Janese Hutton, son Doug Allen and wife, Judy, grandson Craig and wife, April, granddaughters Bethany Allen and Stephanie Cotton, and seven great-grandchildren- Bailey, Payton, Colby, Anslie, Lucas, August, and Elise.
A visitation for Gerrie will be held Thursday, March 14, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Bean-Massey-Burge Funeral Home, 2951 S. Belt Line Road, Grand Prairie, TX 75052. A funeral, officiated by Pastor James Longmate, will occur Thursday, March 14, 2024 at 12:00 PM, 2951 S. Belt Line Road, Grand Prairie, TX 75052. A graveside service will occur Thursday, March 14, 2024 at 1:15 PM at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, TX 75211.
Serving as pallbearers are Gary Allen, Don Allen, Colby Cotton, Payton Cotton, Amby Allen, and Bradley Longmate.
