Gloria was born to the late Gilberto Olivarez and Elvira Martinez on June 13, 1947 in Rio Grande City, Texas. She was the oldest daughter who would often look after her younger siblings. In 1965, Gloria graduated high school from Rio Grande City high. One of her fondest memories of high school was being part of a club called the Thunderbirds, which included her closest friends. Soon after she began working at the welfare office in Edinburg, Texas.
In 1970 Gloria moved to Grand Prairie, Texas to join her brothers and pursue better job opportunities. She later met and married Jose Armando Bustillos. During their time together, they had their daughter Maritza Bustillos in 1974 and son Orlando Bustillos in 1977.
Gloria divorced and spent most of her life as a single mom. She was determined to work hard and provide a safe and happy life for her children. Although she went through many struggles, she was able to find a job at control products CPC in Grand Prairie where she worked in electronics for many years.
Family was very important to her. Gloria was known for being a safe haven to many. With nieces, nephews and closest friends of her children, she often played the role of a second mom. Gloria was always willing to help others in need. She loved family gatherings, BBQ’s and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Gloria had many hobbies. She enjoyed knitting by making beautiful hats and scarves for her family and friends. Gardening was her passion. She had a green thumb for every flower and plant she touched. Over the years, she had many fish and birds as pets that she loved.
She was a loving Christian woman with a nurturing and compassionate spirit. We will continue to reflect on our memories of her. She was loved and will be missed by many.
