

James Howard Clay, 91, passed May 20, 2025 after a long illness. James was born September 9, 1933 in Pine Bluff Arkansas to Doris Hope Clay Caruthers and Howard Albert Clay.
He is preceded in Death by his father Howard Clay, his mother Doris Caruthers, and 8 step brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Clair Vernell Clay, and 2 children, Karen Clay Jordan of San Angelo and Jimmy Clay of Grand Prairie. He has 4 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister from Houston, Joan Clay Lowe and a niece Carol Dehan also of Houston.
He graduated Pine Bluff High School 5/24/1951 then married Claire Vernell Pharr in January 22, 1953.
He was soon drafted to serve at Fort Bliss from 1953 to 1955.
He and Nell moved to Grand Prairie Texas in 1956 and he obtained employment at Texas Instruments in Dallas from 1959 to 1991.
He joined First Baptist Church in Grand Prairie in 1956 where he attended faithfully and took part in Master Builders and made a mission trip to Japan with a group from his church.
James and Nell enjoyed traveling and visited many countries together. They enjoyed bowling in a church league and other activities throughout the years.
James was a long time season ticket holder for the Dallas Cowboys beginning from 1961 until 2009.
A memorial service will be held in San Angelo on May 31st at Immanuel Baptist Church at 10 am.
