

James grew up mainly in Lafayette, La and moved to Dallas in high school. He graduated from Forest High School before enlisting in the US Army Air Corp. He served as a B17 pilot for 6 years before joining the Air Force Reserve in 1945. He achieved the rank of Capitan before being discharged in 1946. James worked as a drafts man in New Mexico at the nuclear bomb plant and relocated to Texas in 1959.
James was a happy, easy going man who always had a smile on his face. He met Dorothy through a friend and they were married September 18, 1972. James enjoyed building model airplanes, flying planes and teaching others how to fly and riding motorcycles. He was a member of the Grand Prairie Model Aircraft Association and Academy of Model Aircraft Association. He was easy to talk to, honest and an amazing father and husband.
He is preceded in death by his parents: James Shuptrine and Sarah Tubbs; brother Aubrey Shuptrine.
James is survived by hie wife Dorothy Shuptrine; chidren: Dianne Kovar and her husband, Jerry, Carol Shick, James Wilson Shuptrine and his wife, Cathy, Linda Cunningham and her husband, Joseph; grandchildren: Heath Eby and his wife, Muriel, Josh Shick and his wife, Megan, Brian Cunningham, Brad Cunningham, Jerry Kovar and his wife, Tiffiny, Erin Firchau and her husband, Andy, Kristin Ziemba and her husband, Dave, Kelly Connors and her husband, Dan, Gary Flores and Jacqueline Kolski; brother Bill Shuptrine and his wife, Mary, 15 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
A funeral service for James will be held Wednesday, December 26, 2018 from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM at Bean-Massey-Burge Funeral Home Beltline Road, 2951 S. Belt Line Road, Grand Prairie, TX 75052. Following the funeral service will be a graveside service from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mt. Creek Pkwy, Dallas, TX 75211.
