Joe Luis Rodriguez age 70 of Burleson, Texas passed away on Tuesday, November 2, 2021. He was born in Matamoros, Mexico on August 20, 1951. Joe graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Baytown, Texas and attended San Jacinto College in Pasadena, Texas. He was married to Peggy Jobe on September 6, 1970. Joe had a career in X-ray engineering with Eastman Kodak for over 25 years. He was one of two servicemen in the entire state of Texas and part of the Oklahoma area. So even if he wasn’t at work, he was on call.
Joe was proud to be living in America and when he was in his early 40s, he decided to become a US Citizen. He studied, took his Citizenship test and proudly waived the American flag as a US Citizen. He was a member of the Joshua Seventh Day Adventist Church and loved potluck. He also enjoyed watching his twin granddaughters sing in choir programs.
Joe had a passion for humor – he Loved to play pranks and scare people. His laugh was a little smile and a belly chuckle. The love he had for his family was unparalleled. He devoted his life to his children and grandchildren. He taught his daughters how to play Stratego, Risk, and Battleship, along with numerous other board games. Often they would play on into the middle of the night. He taught them how to drive on back country dirt roads. He taught his girls how to play softball and would always take time to help them practice. He instilled in them I love for sports.
Unless he was at work, he always attended school programs, softball games or anything his three daughters had going on. Star Trek was by far his favorite show/movie but he liked other sci-fi as well; such as Predator, The Twilight Zone and Outer Limits. He also enjoyed a good western like The Good The Bad and The Ugly, Bonanza, and The Rifleman. And of course, keeping in line with his humor, he liked Cheech and Chong. He liked many types of music, among them ZZ Top, Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR), The Beatles, Low Rider, Selena's La Carcacha, and the humorous song – Star Trekkin' (The Firm) which he would sing along to you and make silly faces.
Joe had a huge appreciation for food. He enjoyed all types of food but his favorite was his mom Esther's cooking. Specifically tamales, tortillas, chile relleno and cheese enchiladas. He proudly taught his girls how to make the cheese enchilada family recipe. He also happily welcomed anything with sugar or cheese that his daughter Disa baked and brought to him. Joe enjoyed life. He loved his family. He joked, laughed, ‘dad’ danced and made everyone around him smile, laugh and just be happy to be near him. He was fond of giving his loved ones nicknames. He will be missed more than anyone could ever know. He had the biggest, greatest hugs and the silliest pat on the head. He was a big man with an even bigger heart.
Joe is survived by his three daughters Disa Machen-Tucker (Kiddo) and husband Rob Tucker (Roberto), Kelsie Neves (Grace) and Sasha Rodriguez (Sashi); grandchildren, Kaili Belle Machen (Kailita), Mauro Joe Rodriguez (Navo Joe), Zipporah San Juana Rodriguez and Serenity Esther Rodriguez (The Twinkies), younger sister, Mary Sandra Wheeler (Sis), and Peggy Jobe Kennimer - mother of his children & lifelong friend, Jonathan F. Rodriguez - father of NavaJo (Mauro Joe) & the Twinkies (Zipporah & Serenity), and younger sister Mary Sandra Wheeler (Sis)
