Jose grew up in the Dallas area but before he could finish high school he enrolled in the United States Army where he served his country for 6 years as a paratrooper. After returning from the military Jose had a career in baking and cleaning for the grocery store industry and Pyramid Cleaners.
The best trait about Jose was his big heart. He was generous and always there for his large family. Never the disciplinary he showered his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren with love and surprise visits. Holidays were a big deal to him and a great time to get together with family, but no holiday was as important to him as his birthday.
Jose was very social and loved to listen and dance to Hispanic music. He also enjoyed western movies and could tell you everything about any of the great old actors. He liked to cheer for the Dallas Cowboys, collect cassette tapes and spend special time with his love Gracie Dean.
Jose is preceded in death by his father Miguel Hernandez Valdez, mother Margaret Pettis Valdez, brothers Mike Pettis Valdez, Raymond Pettis Valdez and sister Lidia Leal Fernandez.
He is survived by his children Brenda Valdez Aaron and husband Thomas of Grand Prairie, TX, Connie Valdez Hinton and husband Randy of Albion, MI, Kattie Valdez Galindo of Crandall, TX, Joe P. Valdez Jr. of Mesquite, TX, Sylvia Valdez Allman and husband Keith of Dallas, TX; 21 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
