Joseph (Hosie) Vann Wangler, born April 24, 1958, in Dallas, Texas, to George and Peggy Wangler, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2026. Raised in Grand Prairie alongside nine siblings, Joe’s childhood was filled with adventure on Proctor Drive. Growing up, he was always the funny one, making his siblings laugh—especially when they heard him giggling while watching the Three Stooges. He attended Immaculate Conception, Ben Milam Elementary, Lee Jr. High, and Grand Prairie High School, where he developed a love for rodeos and bull riding, and became known for his remarkable whip-cracking skills.
Joe’s pursuit of knowledge led him to North Lake College and Texas A&M. Proudly serving his country, he was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army. Throughout his life, Joe was a passionate sportsman, winning trophies in softball and pool, and enjoying fishing, golf, and cherished moments with family.
Joe’s love for the outdoors inspired him to create the beautiful J&B Ranch, a sanctuary he shared with his beloved wife, Bonnie, whom he married on August 21, 1987. Together, they found joy in quiet evenings on the porch, surrounded by nature and starlit skies.
A true history enthusiast, especially of the Civil War, Joe visited historic sites like Vicksburg and Gettysburg, and even named a favorite cat Nathan Bedford Forrest. He and Bonnie traveled to Hawaii, relishing the beaches and deep-sea fishing. Joe’s interests included collecting John Deere tractors and antiques, and he had a special bond with animals, especially his cat Angel. He was a proud Master Mason and a formidable opponent in checkers, chess, and Trivial Pursuit.
Professionally, Joe excelled as a Senior Master Mechanic, working on everything from cars to heavy machinery. His expertise spanned Cummins diesel engines in Arlington, waste management trucks in Garland, Nissans in Dallas, firefighting equipment in Kemp, and all manner of engines in Emory. He eventually opened his own shop, J & B Repair in Kaufman, and retired from the City of Garland Fleet Services in 2018.
Joe is survived by his devoted wife, Bonnie Campbell Wangler; sisters Dana Grimes and Margaret Neal (Dennis); brothers John Wangler (Nora), George Wangler (Barbara), and Conrad Wangler (Lisa). He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Peggy Wangler; brothers Billy, Richard, and Paul; and sister Andrea Hopkins. Joe leaves behind a loving family of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and many friends whose lives he touched.
Joe’s legacy is one of love, laughter, kindness, generosity and unwavering dedication to family, friends, and community. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
