

Juanita Goeke Spruiell, 97, passed away May 4, 2016. She was born in Limestone County, Texas on July 22, 1918, to William and Vesta Goeke. Juanita grew up in Limestone County, attending grade school in Coolidge, Texas and later attending college in San Marcos, Texas. She met Carl Spruiell from a rival school when they were young and they married June 17, 1937, at the Methodist Episcopal Church in McLennan County. The family moved to Grand Prairie in the late 1940’s where Juanita immediately became involved in the First United Methodist Church. She taught Sunday School and was actively involved with Women’s Studies.Juanita was a true lady who enjoyed traveling with her sisters, going to Bible studies and reading. She was particularly fond of Jan Karon. Some of her many talents included being a wonderful cook (her chocolate pie being a family favorite), and having a green thumb. She loved all colorful flowers, and grew
African violets and orchids. Juanita was a devoted wife and loving mother; but when it came to her grandchildren, they were her loves: babysitting them in their younger years, attending their sports activities, and picking them up after school. She was a sweet, thoughtful woman to both family and friends. When she lost the love of her life in 1975, she began her first job in Grand Prairie at a local bank as a bookkeeper until her retirement. In 2008 she moved to Fredericksburg, Texas. Juanita is preceded in death by her husband, Carl Hubert Spruiell; parents: William J. Goeke and Vesta G Ward Goeke; and sisters: Faye Harden and JoNell Ford.She is survived by her sons: Jim Spruiell and his wife, Pam; David Spruiell and his wife, Suzanne; grandsons Sean Spruiell and his wife, Diane; Shane Spruiell and his wife, Marti; Stephen Spruiell and his wife, Diane, and Andrew Spruiell; great grandchildren: Austin Spruiell, Corey Gill, Coy Earley, Jack
Spruiell, Hank Spruiell, and Charlotte Spruiell; sisters: Billie Holland and Judy Matthews . In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Juanita’s name to the First United Methodist Church of Grand Prairie, 122 N. Center St. Grand Prairie, Texas 75050, or to the charity of your choice.
