

Marvin Lavone Cook age 93, a 66 year resident of Grand Prairie, went to be with the Lord on May 23, 2024. He was born in Tipton, Oklahoma on March 21, 1931 to Luther and Lydia Crow Cook. He married Mary Frances Stafford on June 4, 1949 they were married for almost 75 years. Marvin had a lifetime of careers. He began as a boy doing farm work in Oklahoma. He worked construction in California. He moved back to Texas and worked for the Ford Motor Company, Vitalic/General Battery, General Motors. He went back to General Battery for 24 years. Marvin also worked part-time in a lawn care business while maintaining these other jobs, as well as keeping himself busy during his retirement years.
Marvin was a Charter member of the former Evangel Temple in Grand Prairie, and also Victory Temple in Grand Prairie. Marvin had many interests and hobbies like rabbit hunting and swimming in the lake as a young boy in Oklahoma. He enjoyed watching the Cowboys, OU Texas and Oklahoma State games, especially the Red River Rivalry. He thoroughly enjoyed family time with his three children, their spouses, grand and great grandchildren.
Marvin is survived by his loving wife Frances, three children Rodney (Jennifer) Cook, Rhonda Savage-Herdman (Charles Herdman) and Karen (James) Pirtle. Eleven grandchildren, Robert and Gentry Savage, David and Bethany Savage, Mary and Derek Pugh, Stephen and Katie Cook, Chris and Amy Cook, and Sean Pirtle. Nine great grandchildren, Jake and Lexi Savage, Kendrick Pirtle, Jack and Ginny Savage, Kent, Cal, Cruz, and Costa Cook. He was preceded in death by his parents and five sisters, Edith Smith, Lucille Cunningham, Pauline Piper, Daphne Hough and Marie Stracener.
