

Mervle Wayne Horton of Grand Prairie, 90, passed away quietly at Methodist Mansfield Medical Center on Sunday December 25, 2022. He was born on September 19, 1932, in Ethel, Arkansas, the son of Samuel Ernest Horton and Lucy Delilah Turner Horton. Mervle married Dorothy Hulsey in 1959, and they celebrated 53 years of marriage together before her passing.
Mervle began working for Graff Chevrolet in 1958 and quickly became known as the “perfect sales and service” man as he established long-term relationships with his many customers. He was recognized for his honesty and integrity in the car industry. Mervle was a dedicated salesperson who had a passion for working with people. In 1977, he opened his own successful small dealership, Horton Used Cars on Jefferson Street in downtown Grand Prairie. In his spare time, Mervle loved gambling, watching football, and taking trips to Vegas with his wife. Mervle doted on his family members and was happiest when surrounded by his grandchildren. Family and friends will miss his warm smile, his enthusiastic sense of humor, and will fondly remember him as the kindest man.
Mervle is survived by his children Suzanne Rickman and husband Chris; Monte Horton and wife Dawn; Mike Horton and wife Judy; and Pam Scharmen and husband Gary; grandchildren Samantha McGilvra, Chris Rickman and wife Kathleen, Autumn Smith, Kathryn Pomeroy and husband Bryan, Sarah Sanchez and husband Freddy, Julia Horton, Jackie Gourley, Julia Morgan, Britton June Morgan, Chelcy Morrison, and husband Jim; and many great grandchildren. Mervle was preceded in death by his parents, wife Dorothy, and brothers Ernest, Raymond, and Charles.
A celebration of Mervle’s life will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at Bean-Massey-Burge Funeral Home, Grand Prairie.
