Mildred Ann Smith

October 6, 1941 - June 12, 2016

A memorial service for Mildred A. "Micki" (Gant) Halford Smith, 74, of Grand Prairie, will be held at 10am on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at Bean Massey Burge Funeral Home in Grand Prairie, Texas with Rev. Ron Adams officiating.

Mildred Ann (Gant) Halford Smith was born in Fairhope, Alabama on October 6, 1941 to James F. "Jimmy" Gant and Ruth (Winberg) Gant. She is a 1959 graduate of Grand Prairie High School, and a member of the Grand Prairie Alumni Association. She was a loving housewife, mother and community leader and was surrounded by children her entire life. God said, "Love the little children" and she obeyed, she loved all children and they loved her!

Micki was a retired bank teller and worked many years at Midway National Bank, Nations Bank and Bank of America, where she never met a stranger! She is a member of the Family Church of the Nazarene in Grand Prairie. She was also a member of the local Grand Prairie Eastern Star, and served her community well by holding various positions for years as a PTA officer, Girl Scout and Boy Scout leader. She was also involved in the Grand Prairie Youth Football as a coach's wife and team mom.

She enjoyed all sports but was especially happy when going to the Gopher/Warrior Bowl to see not only her son but grandsons play football and baseball. She was thrilled to attend the Austin College fields to watch football or baseball when her grandsons played. She was very proud and supportive of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She helped support the Geepettes and was part of the planning committee for the Class of '59 reunions. She spent many hours at Cottonwood Park watching her son, grandsons, and great-grandsons play baseball. She was an avid Dallas Cowboy, Mavericks, Stars and Texas Rangers fan.

Micki is preceded in death by her husband of 24 years, Charles Rayburn "Papa Ray" Smith of Grand Prairie. Family including a sister, Rebecca "Becky" Sue Hale of Irving, brother Sammy Hale and wife, Anna of New Braunfels, Dennis Hale of Grand Prairie, Irvin Hale and wife, Susie of Lewisville, stepbrother Lyle Mariam and wife, Linda of Las Vegas, stepbrother James Terry Hale of Premont, Son-in-law and daughter, Wayne and Kaye (Halford) Gilbert of Grand Prairie, son James E. Halford Jr. (Bubba), of Grand Prairie, stepdaughter and husband, Russ and Dora Hallmark of Grand Prairie, Chuck Smith of Georgia, grandchildren: Heather Gilbert, Holli Gilbert, Matthew Gilbert, Brandie Keeton and husband David, Jeremy Halford, Brance Halford, Meredith Moore, Travis Locker, Nathan Locker, Jeremy Locker, Katheryn Price and husband, Michael. Great-grandchildren: Hayden and Henley Gilbert, Dawson and Gracelyn Keeton, Michael III and Charles Price and numerous nieces and nephews.
