

She was born on May 21, 1937, in Quantico, Virginia to Master Staff Sgt. Ivy Lee and Katherine Crownover. She traveled around the country with her younger brother and parents while her father served in the Marine Corp.
Myra attended Minden High School where she graduated in 1955. It was in Minden, La that she met her beloved husband, Don Edward Hasty, were they later married at Antioch Baptist Church on October 20, 1956.
In July of 1960, Don and Myra decided to move to Texas with their two children Mike and Becky where 3 years later adding another son, Doug.
Once settling in Grand Prairie raising her 3 children, Myra began working as Lee Middle School secretary, finishing her degree at UT Arlington, she became a teacher at Lee for several years until she completed her master’s degree at Tx A&M Commerce. This allowed her to move into her favorite occupation of all, Counselor and Educator in Career & Technology.
While the state was focused on pre-college education, Myra knew college wasn’t for every student and pushed to have more vocational education taught in public schools. So much was her influence, Myra served as President of the Texas Vocational Consortium. Myra was also honored to have a Career & Technology Association of Texas, College Scholarship in her name.
Myra was also a 2014 - 2015 recipient of the Bill Arnold Service Award.
Myra retired from Grand Prairie Public Schools in 2000.
Myra, known by many as MawMaw, was best known for her laughter and having a good time wherever she went, but most importantly her dedication to her grandchildren. When she wasn’t gardening, reading, playing cards, country western dancing, traveling, cheering for her Dallas Cowboys, she was attending ALL games and events for her grandchildren.
Anyone that knew Myra, knew she lived for her family.

Preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Don Edward Hasty; parents Master Staff Sgt. Ivy Lee and Katherine Crownover; and only brother, Ralph Crownover.
