Ralphael “Ralph” Johnson: A big man in more than just stature. Everybody’s “Big Teddy Bear”. Loving and protective brother to Lana Johnson, Sandra Kay Carruthers, Ray Dell Johnson, Charlotte Johnson, and Carla Johnson. Ready to lend a helping hand to anyone and any task, as long as it didn’t involve snakes. Yep, Ralph was scared of ALL snakes.
Ralph was born on August 3, 1947 in Overton, Texas to Hubert Austin Johnson and Lena Mae Wilson. Living in a loving and nurturing environment, he graduated from El Paso Technical High School. Ralph chose to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Navy. He rose through the ranks and served aboard combat vessels during the Vietnam Conflict as Steam Plan Operator and later as a Recruit Training Officer as well as a Fireman.
Ralph retired from Federal Civil Service in 2010.
Ralph’s journey through his earthly life gave him the joy of Fatherhood with the birth of Angela Soto-Johnson and Ilani Johnson. He relished his grandchildren, Samuel Elijah Smith and Sean Ralphael Lacy and great grandchildren, Saphira Delone Smith and Arya Mae Smith and siblings, Lana Johnson, Sandra Kay Carruthers, Ray Dell Johnson, Charlotte Johnson, and Carla Johnson. .
Those of us who had the privilege of really getting to know and love Ralph recognized that he displayed those virtues that distinguish the very best character traits, so seldom seen today. Ralph, may we remember you in the sunsets and sweet songs of the birds and hope to walk in your footsteps and linger in your big shadow.
