

Alex W. Layman aged 92, of Grand Rapids passed away Saturday, January 14, 2012. He was preceded in death by his wife Martha, brothers; Walter, Edward, Zigmont, Martin and sister Frances. Alex will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Diane (Raymond) Ford, grandchildren; Daniel (Andrea) Ford, Michael (Kelly) Ford, Renee (Eric) Vales, great-grandchildren; Kassandra, Mackenzie, Gabrielle, Jacob, Ty, Ethan, Logan, Grady, brother Louis Layman and several nieces and nephews. He served his country in the Army during WWII and the European Theater. Alex was an avid bowler, who loved fishing, golf and hunting. His real passion was dancing the Polka. He resided in the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans for the past 4 years and the family thanks them for their loving care. Alex was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He will be truly missed. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 12:00 PM Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church 2275 Diamond Ave NE with Rev George Darling as celebrant. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Reyers North Valley Chapel 2815 Fuller Ave NE and on Wednesday from 11:30 until the time of service at church. The Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 PM on Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Friends of the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans or Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
