Charles Matthew Thompson, age 85 years old, died peacefully at his home in Texas on Sunday, January 28th. He was born in Muskegon MI and lived most of his life in Grand Rapids. Charles graduated from Creston High School in 1950. He served his country in the Army as a pilot during the Korean War. Most of his friends (and others) heard the story about his flying under the bridge at the Royal Gorge. He was also a proud MSU graduate.Charles will be laid to rest next to his first wife of 42 years, Nannette Mergle Thompson at Blythefield Memorial Garden in Belmont, MI. His passions were hunting and fishing and Trails End at White Cloud, MI where he lived out his retirement years. Charles loved hunting season and golf outings but most of all he loved being with his friends and family. There are too many accomplishments to mention, but his greatest contribution to this world was his boundless friendships and his great sense of humor. You cannot have good friends unless you are a good friend; Charlie has great friends, and was a great friend. His sister Alice Arwezon passed away in 2014. Charles is survived by his brother Wayne Thompson of White Cloud, MI; his wife Sandee Thompson; children Corey and Myra Fabling of San Antonio, TX, Parker Fabling of Canyon Lake, TX, Wade and Debbie Jordan of Garden Ridge, TX. He was so proud of his beautiful smart granddaughters, Madelyn Fabling, Jahannah Fabling, Ashlyn Jordan, Eva Fabling, and Hailey Fabling. The family would like to recognize two very loving caregivers, Julie Ann Hunt of Canyon Lake (New Braunfels) TX and Marcia Fredrick of New Braunfels, TX. He will also be missed by his noisy little dog Sadee. A heart felt thank you goes to the caregivers and nurses at Hope Hospice in New Braufels, TX for their help and understanding. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice, your local nonprofit hospice, or two more of Charlie's favorites the Samuel Omega Foundation for wells in Africa and the Fremont Area Community Foundation (4424 W 48th St, Fremont, MI 49412). Charles was loved by many and he loved many.
