Donald Joe Hamilton, aged 91, was invited to celebrate Christmas with Jesus on Saturday, December 20, 2025. Don was born in Grand Rapids on February 23, 1934, to Harold and Hazel (Robbins) Hamilton. He was a proud graduate of Creston High School and Michigan State University.
In 1956, Don married the love of his life, Linda. They spent their first two years of marriage in Tacoma, Washington, while Don proudly served our country in the U.S. Army. After his honorable discharge, the young couple returned to Grand Rapids where Don enjoyed a long and fulfilling career as co-owner of Hamilton Lumber and Veneer Co. alongside his brother, Robert. He retired at the age of 75.
A faithful member of Northlawn United Methodist Church for over 65 years, Don served in the choir and held numerous leadership roles. He was particularly passionate about his work as a sports organizer for the GRUMPS (Grand Rapids United Methodist Players). Outside of church and work, Don loved boating, water skiing, playing cards, and making memories with family and friends.
Don was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Robert. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Linda (Oberly) Hamilton; their four children, Sally (Greg) Wesorick, Thomas (Sandy) Hamilton, Sue (Gary) Spahr, and Timothy (Lorena) Hamilton; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law Jody Hamilton and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 23, at 2:00 p.m. at Northlawn United Methodist Church (1157 Northlawn NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49505). The family will receive visitors at the church one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Northlawn United Methodist Church or Lori’s Voice.
