

Rev. Glen Arnold Ozinga, aged 82, of Grand Rapids, went to be with the Lord suddenly Saturday, January 21, 2012. He was preceded in death by his mother Ada Ozinga and his father Berend Ozinga. Surviving are his loving wife of 61 years, Eugenia Ozinga, brother Dale Ozinga (Elaine), his daughters Hellen Bennett (David) and Melody Hollowell (Steve), his sons Philip Ozinga (Martha) and David Ozinga (Penny), his grandsons Ken VanPortfliet (Kristin), Timothy Ozinga, Isaac Ozinga (Laura), Jacob Ozinga and Jason Harley, his granddaughters Grace Ozinga and Kimberly VanPortfliet, as well as several cousins. Glen was born on January 07, 1930. He married Eugenia Mary Evans on August 25, 1950. Glen graduated from Creston High School, obtained his BRE from Grand Rapids Baptist Bible College (Cornerstone), and his MA in Secondary School Administration from Western Michigan University. He was ordained to the Gospel Ministry on April 08, 1957. He served as a missionary in Liberia West Africa (1957-1965). Glen helped organize a Liberian church in Zeoli. He spearheaded agricultural programs to help Liberian students become self-sufficient. While there, he taught and served as superintendent of the day school in Suakoko, Liberia. He taught Social Studies / History in the Grand Rapids Public School System for 24 years (1967-1992) after which he retired. For many years, Glen served as a teachers’ union representative. Glen dearly loved family, history, horseshoes, and traveling. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday January 26, 2012 at the Reyers North Valley Chapel 2815 Fuller Ave NE with Rev Vern Bareman and Rev. Darrell Messer as co-celebrants. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
