On September 10, 1948, Joan was united in marriage to the love of her life, James Coleman. They celebrated 56 years together before Jim’s passing in 2005.
Joan was dedicated to her family. She raised her five children in a warm and caring home, instilling strong Christian values into their upbringing. For many years, Joan and Jim attended Berean Baptist Church.
She was the consummate care giver. She didn’t just take care of her family. If a neighbor or friend was under the weather or in need, she would be the first to show up with a smile, a pot of soup, homemade cookies, or some other special treat.
As Joan aged, she moved to Rest Haven Home. It was here she again become well-known for her generous nature, a kind word, and always having Milky Ways for her fellow residents and friends. She was a friend to many, and cared for those who needed support and compassion. Joan will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, caring grandmother and dedicated woman of faith.
Joan is survived by her children: Steven (Linda) Coleman, Carole (Jim) Schaap, Cindy Elenbaas (Gary Gerlach) , Jim (Jill) Coleman and Tammy Coleman (Lori Grinwis); her grandchildren: Craig (Jennifer), Kevin, Michael (Becky), and Aaron Coleman, Brooke (Aaron) Hein, Lauren (Nic) Tarzwell, Steve (Kristy) Elenbaas and Casey Elenbaas, Andy (Brenda) Barger, and Dan (Chantel) Barger and Corey Kruger; and her great-grandchildren: Caleb, Jacob, Logan, Abigail, Aiden, Nathanial, Gabriella, Carson, Peyton, Coleman, Briggs, Madison, Riley, Gracelyn, Lilly, Madelyn and Isabelle.
