

John Lee Coffman, 84 of Grand Rapids, passed away on January 28, 2021 at Fountain View Retirement Village in Grant. John was born in Munising on April 28, 1936 the son of Mervin & Susie (Housel) Coffman.
He grew up in the small town of Shingleton where he developed a strong work ethic.
This led to John proudly served his country in the US Army. Upon his honorable discharge, he settled into his first of two careers, Dairy farming.
As John aged, the demands of farming led him to look into a second career and leaving the fields behind him, John took to the open road as a long haul trucker. The traveling was good for John as he didn’t like to stay in one place long and new stops were always a favorite. Even after retiring, traveling was still a passion and John loved to visit the UP to visit the beauty of his hometown.
John loved to joke and laugh, and he had to with a family that grew to include 7 children. Having a large family also made him understand that life happens so no point in getting stressed, he just went with the flow. He was a laid back guy who enjoyed the rest of a nice nap.
John is survived by his children: Toni (Robin) Dickerson, Carla (Dave) Gitchell, Randy (Kelly) Coffman, Dean (Linda) Coffman, Terri (Will) Oyler, Amanda (Frog) Coffman and Nikki (Chris Dahn) Coffman; 13 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and a growing number of great-great grandchildren as well as many other relatives.
John was preceded in death by his granddaughter Cyndi Grondman, his sisters Marie Smith, Helen Mitchell and his brothers LeRoy and Richard Coffman.
Following cremation, John will be laid to rest in Algoma Township Cemetery.
