John Fredrick Peless

John attended Comstock Park High School where he broke numerous school records for his athleticism and was a star in any sport he played. John was strong in his faith and an active member of the United Methodist Church for most of his life. He was a member of his church choir and often led Sunday School. He adored his wife, Sally Jo, and the couple spent 55 wonderful years together until her passing in 2019. The pair was inseparable and their love for each other grew into a family of 6 children and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. John's love for sport followed him throughout his life and he loved watching all the Detroit teams play. In his free time, he enjoyed going to Disney World and all things Elvis. John was the type of man who would help anyone he could. He was a family man who loved spending time with his family. His family would describe him as a 'gentle giant' who always had an upbeat attitude. John will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

John was preceded in death by: wife, Sally Jo Peless; daughter, Katrina Peless; parents, James and Florence Peless; brothers, James and Richard; and sister, Lori.

John is survived by: children, Jeff (Carolyn) Peless, Todd (Cathy) Peless, Lon (Jennifer) Peless, Jason (Robin) Peless, and Gretchen Peless; 16 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; brother, Bill (Ruth) Peless; and many nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service for John, officiated by John Lowder, will be held on Tuesday, March 4th 2025 at 11:00 am at Reyers North Valley Chapel, 2815 Fuller Ave NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49505. The family will welcome guests one hour prior to the start of the service. John will be laid to rest at Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
