Born in Grand Rapids on May 10, 1963, to Ronald and Patricia (Lamphear) Plekker, John stayed a lifelong resident in the community he cherished. From an early age, he embraced life with enthusiasm and zest, qualities that stayed with him all his years.
John began his working life as a cook at Russ’ Restaurant, where he made many friends. He later worked at Thornapple Valley and found his career home at Gordon Food Service, where he dedicated 30 years in maintenance. John was known as the man who could fix anything, always bringing a grin and a can-do spirit to every task.
Beyond his work, John’s passions shaped his days. Whether cheering loudly for the Detroit Lions, hunting in northern Michigan, casting a fishing line, or enjoying time with friends, he embraced life’s adventures. He was an active member of the Grand Rapids Steelheaders and was currently serving as Vice President of the associated foundation his dad helped set up in 2004, a cause close to his heart.
He is survived by his fiancée, Julie Rounds; his son, Taylor Plekker; Taylor’s mother, Nancy Plekker; his sister, Jackie (Bob) Cunningham, and their children, Nick, Sarah, his goddaughter Whitney, and Zack; his brother, Randy Plekker, and his children, Chris and Megan; as well as many other cherished friends and relatives.

John’s laughter and love will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be deeply missed.
