The world lost a special man when Kim Raymond Kretowicz, age 70, passed away unexpectedly on January 19, 2026 at his home. He was born on March 27, 1955, in Grand Rapids to Raymond and Eljean (Kinsley) Kretowicz. Kim was a lifelong resident of the Grand Rapids area.
Kim led a life full of adventures, stories, and action. He was an ardent fan of Lionel trains, motorcycles, arcade games, and Ford pickup trucks. He renovated, rehabbed, and repaired a series of homes throughout his life, mastering his skills in flooring, framing, roofing, concrete and electrical work, landscaping, and cabinetry. The man really could do it all! Kim also enjoyed eating a well-cooked prime rib dinner, placing a few bets at the area casinos, and cheering for the Michigan State Spartans.
Working in the finance world, Kim spent his successful career in the mortgage industry, where he developed many friendships with his clients and coworkers. He also served as a mentor to numerous teens and young adults over the years, offering a peaceful respite from the toils and pressures of growing up.
Most recently, Kim was excitedly awaiting the arrival of his first grandchild. His daughter will soon be giving birth to a little girl who will be named Piper. He had many plans in place for spoiling her.
Kim will be remembered for his adventurous spirit and the inspiration he provided to those around him.
Kim is survived by his fiancée Robin Bice; his daughter Katherine (David Suchowolec) Kretowicz; his son Joseph (Anthony Borgstahl) Kretowicz; his much-anticipated granddaughter Piper Kretowicz Suchowolec; the mother of his children Colleen Kretowicz; his siblings: Barb (Dave) Bockheim, Karen (Matt) Schneider, and Tom (Tammy) Kretowicz; and Robin's children: Arian (Ben) Nelson and their children Cameron & Hannah, Chris (Meg) Bice and their son Harrison, and Jack (LeAnn) Bice, as well as many other relatives.
A Celebration of Life for Kim is being planned for the Spring.
