
La Verne "Verne" Davis, went to be with his Lord on May 22, 2015. He was 95 years old. Verne was born in Fowlerville, MI on July 20, 1919 to the late Otis and Alice (Bennett) Davis. He was the youngest of 4 children. He is preceded by his siblings Howard Davis (1903-1965), Gertrude (Davis) Graham (1906-2004), and Harold Davis (1912-1976). Verne was married on February 22, 1941 in Ann Arbor, MI to Elnor Angie Wade. Elnor was born to Morris and Ethel (Doud) Wade on November 10, 1922 in Mason, MI and passed away on May 9, 2002, in Palmetto, FL. Verne and Elnor had 4 children: Jeannette (Eldon) Miller of Caledonia, MI, Lorence "Larry" Davis, deceased, ((1)Suzanne and (2) Linda) of Lansing, MI, Gordon Lee Roy (Faye) Davis of Grand Rapids, MI, and Janice (Steve) Bradley of Lowell, MI. Verne and Elnor spent most of their early married life in Lake Odessa, MI, where they raised their family. Verne worked in Lansing, MI, at General Motors as a Hi-Lo driver. In 1963 they moved to Sunfield, MI, where they purchased a house after many years of renting. They were members of the United Methodist Church of Lake Odessa and were active in church ministry. After his 29 years of service Verne retired. Verne and Elnor briefly moved to Jennings, MI before deciding to split the seasons between Palmetto, FL for the winter and Indian River, MI for the summers. Verne moved to Kentwood, MI 5 years after his wife's death. He then had his church membership transferred to the Calvary Grace Brethren Church in Alto, MI. Over the years, he enjoyed camping with his family, playing cards, fishing, golfing, shuffle boarding, watching Tigers baseball games, and gathering with family and friends for potluck dinners. In addition to his children, Verne leaves behind 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, many nieces and nephews, as well as many friends, including those at Jet Park and Wellington Woods. Per his and the family's wishes, cremation has taken place and a small private memorial service will take place at a later date.
