He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Evelyn, and his four siblings; Don (Iva) Zimmerman, L.D. (Kathleen) Zimmerman, Max (Edna) Zimmerman, Ruth (Ray) Hyatt.
Leo is survived by his adored daughter Janice (Dale) DeVries, his sister in law Betty Crowley, Leo's nephews; Ron (Kathy) Zimmerman, Rich (Donna) Zimmerman, Ray D. Zimmerman, his honorary nephew Mike (Julie) Lucas, their children Olivia and Noah, family Mike (Shelley) Crowley, Christine (Mark) Huizinga and Don (Renell) Crowley.
Leo proudly served in the United States Army as an auto mechanic, he was a brilliant one. People would often ask "Can you fix this Leo?", and it was he that could. He would work on antique cars regularly and he loved every bit of it. Together, Leo and his siblings owned Zimmerman's garage in Grand Rapids for years. He would even continue to work on cars when him and Evelyn would spend their winters in Florida for many years, later in their lives. Leo built the home he would live in for 75 years in Grand Rapids. He truly loved his daughter. He was a gregarious man that would enjoy discussion with just a rock, he was friendly and loved talking with anyone. He will be greatly missed by many.
