

Leona grew up in Indiana and was a graduate of Reitz Memorial High School. She went on to work for the State of Michigan Department of Agriculture as a secretary for over 20 years. She married her love, Jerome Zimmer, in January of 1952, and the pair spent many wonderful years together until his passing in 2007. They are now reunited in Heaven. Leona was a devout Catholic and had a deep faith in God. She was a parishioner of St. Jude Parish for 16 years. She was heavily involved in various church activities and organizations, such as the quilting guild,choir, Pre-Cana marriage preparation, and Right to Life. In her free time, Leona loved to quilt, do needle work, and make infant baptismal garments. She cherished her family and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a loving woman of strong and steadfast beliefs who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Leona was preceded in death by: husband of 55 years, Jerome; parents, John and Loretta; and sister, Mary Durchholz.
Leona is survived by: children Stephen (Pat) Zimmer, Jeffrey (Joann) Zimmer, Greg (Kris) Zimmer, and Tim (Ginger) Zimmer; grandchildren, Katie (Nico), Laura (Will), Stephanie (Mike), Jeffrey, Erin (Mike), Jennifer (Matt), Sarah, Dan (Jolene) and Ashley (Rusty); many great-grandchildren, sister Rosemary Gronotte; as well as many nieces, nephews, and special friends.
A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 10th, 2024 from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm, with a Rosary at 6:30 pm, at Reyers North Valley Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place the following day, Thursday, July 11th, 2024 at 11:00 am at St. Jude Catholic Parish. The family will welcome guests one hour prior to the start of Mass. Leona will be laid to rest at Resurrection Cemetery.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you the staff of Courthland Northview and Faith Hospice - especially Kaila and Heather, for their compassionate care of Leona in her final days.
