She was the beloved wife to the late Robert James Schaaf for over 65 years and the loving mother to the late Eric Schaaf, the late Brian Schaaf, Karen Momber, Bernadette Schaaf, Katherine (Bill) Palisano and Karl Schaaf. Janie is survived by several grandchildren, some great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her siblings, Harry Host, Margaret Ann McDonald and Judith Kline.
Janie was an active member at St. Mary’s Church in Spring Lake and spent many years as a volunteer at St. Mary's, St. Jude's and Blessed Sacrament. She was known for being an “avid garage saler”- always finding treasures in small items and making it nice. She had a knack for decorating because of her great taste and took pride in having that hobby. For many years, Janie enjoyed playing hostess and was also known for laying out a “great spread” for others. Janie had a great sense of humor, loved being around others and always seemed to make friends with strangers. She enjoyed being by the water and watching the sailboats glide by. Out of all of the many things Janie will be remembered by, she was most importantly a great mother to 6 children and a hardworking housewife. She will be missed by many.
