She was born on July 7, 1928, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. A proud graduate of Creston High School, Phyllis continued her education at Grand Rapids Junior College and Moody Bible Institute, where she deepened her faith and commitment to service.
On October 12, 1951, she married William Blik. Together, they built a life centered on faith, family, and community.
Phyllis retired from Grand Rapids Public Schools, where she served as a dedicated teacher’s aide and librarian.
A devoted follower of Jesus, Phyllis lived a life marked by deep faith, compassion, and service. She was actively involved in the churches she attended and, alongside her husband Bill, served at Grace Youth Camp, participated in church planting efforts in both Michigan and Iowa, and founded a social group and Bible study for individuals with mental handicaps.
Her journey with Bill began while volunteering with Mel Trotter Ministries—a testament to their shared heart for helping others. Phyllis had a special gift for hospitality, often welcoming family and friends into her home for meals and celebrations, especially birthdays. She also loved playing the piano and sharing music with those around her.
Phyllis and Bill were deeply engaged in Ada Township, where they lovingly cared for her parents’ 80-acre property, including the cherished family retreat known as “the cabin.”
She will be remembered not only for her kindness and sincere curiosity but also for her quick wit and sharp sense of humor. Phyllis had a way of making people laugh with her clever remarks and keen observations. She approached life with an open heart and mind, always eager to understand others and explore the world around her. Above all, she loved Jesus, and her faith was the guiding light in all she did.
Phyllis is survived by her daughter Mindy Bryant (Don), her son Joel Blik (Elaine), her grandchildren Breanne Zalewski, Jacob Bryant, Britni Bryant, and Rainee Blik, and her great-grandchildren William (Liam) Bryant, Creed Blik, Zoey Blik, Miles Zalewski, and Keith Phillips.
She was preceded in death by her husband William Blik, her siblings Beverly Visser and Walter Morris, her daughter Kimberlee Schregardus, and her son-in-law Ricky Schregardus.
