Richard Claude Morse

Richard C. Morse, age 98, passed away peacefully at home with his wife of 77 years by his side on January 8, 2022. He was born in Grand Rapids on July 22, 1923. He was preceded in death by his parents Claude & Edith (Sheehan) Morse, 3 siblings and two of his sons, Jim and Scott.

Besides his wife, Emily, Richard is survived by his children, Gerry Dawson, Ronald (Barb) Morse and Beverly Shepard, his daughter-in-law Betty Morse, 11 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Richard proudly served his country in the Navy during WWII. Upon his honorable discharge, he went to work for the Grand Rapids City Fire Department and retired as a Battalion Chief in 1983.

A man of great faith, Richard was an active member of Northeast Community Church of the Nazarene. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed tending to his yard, camping and being in nature. He is going to be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, caring grandfather, wonderful brother and uncle, and loyal friend.

The family will greet friends from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Monday January 17, 2022 at Northeast Community Church of the Nazarene; 861 Fuller Ave. NE, Grand Rapids, where a memorial service will immediately follow at 3:00 p.m.
