Robert James Green Sr., age 93, of Grand Rapids, Michigan passed away into the open arms of his Lord and Savior, joining in heaven his loving wife of over 62 years Joann (Wright) Green on their 70th anniversary.
Bob was born in Lowell, Michigan on May 6, 1932 to his parents Benjamin Franklin and Dorcas Green (Rector). He was the youngest of four children: Edna (Tutt), Ann (Lemon) and Richard Green.
Bob worked over 30 years for the Grand Rapids Public Schools, first as a delivery truck driver and later, head custodian at Riverside Elementary until he retired in 1988.
He served in the United States Army and was deployed in Korea during the war. As a proud veteran, Bob was a member of the VFW, American Legion, and Moose Clubs.
He enjoyed going to Civil Ward re-enactments with his son Gary and dressed up in his confederate soldier uniform and joined the troops at camp.
Bob was a DJ at WEHB community radio station in the 80's and 90's, hosting the "Bob Green Blue Grass Show" with his loyal sidekick Larry Rothley. He helped his daughter Amy broadcast her own Saturday morning show. He enjoyed different styles of music and played guitar with many friends in bands for jam sessions, parties, and wedding receptions, including occasionally sitting in with son Bob and wife Tally performing with their group. He also played keyboard, ukulele, accordion, and harmonica, sharing his God given talents and bringing many years of enjoyment to others.
One of his favorite things to do was going up north on vacation and spending time with his family in Irons, Michigan at their property camping out, having cookouts, bonfires, and creating many great life time memories for all of us.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years Joann (Wright) Green and son Brian Green.
He is survived by his children, Robert Green Jr. (Tally), Gary Green (Freda), Amy Potter (Eric); daughter-in-law Vickie Green; grandchildren: Matthew Green, Mindy Green, Kendall Green (Matt Sestina), Jacob Green (Shaniece), Hannah Potter; great-grandchildren Naomi, Mazzy, Briar, many loving step grandchildren, step great-grandchildren, neices, nephews and many close friends. Our wonderful Dad and Grandpa loved us all unconditionally and we will miss him dearly. We were so blessed to have him for so many years and rejoice that he is reunited with Mom up in Heaven. We all look forward to that day when we'll meet again!
A private immediate family only service is planned and then a memorial celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
