

Robert M. Reed, aged 98 of Grand Rapids, the widower of the late Marie Spruit Reed, passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at the Stanton Nursing Center in Stanton, Kentucky. He was born in Grand Rapids on May 7, 1913 to the late Charles Richard Reed and Louise Elizabeth Clark. He was retired from General Motors Fisher Body Plant #2. Robert was preceded in death by his daughter, Laura Louise Reed, and his brothers, Charles Richard Reed II., and Maurice Alan Reed. Survivors include his daughter, Judith Marie Schoolmaster (Thomas) of Winchester, Kentucky, grandchildren, Kristine Marie Baumgart (Robert) of Acworth, Georgia, Amy Louise Jelley (Andrew) of Williamsburg, Virginia, and Robert Thomas Schoolmaster (Victoria) of Winchester, Kentucky, ten great grandchildren, a brother, Laurence Lee Reed, a sister-in-law, Donna Jean Reed, many nieces, nephews, and a special cousin, Evelyn Batema. Robert was a lifelong member of North Park Presbyterian Church and was a choir member, as well as serving on many church commitees, was a Mason and a Shriner, where he held leadership roles in both organizations. Pall bearers will be Robert C. Baumgart, Matthew Baumgart, Tom Wells, Beverly Lawson, David Steghuis, and Robert Schoolmaster. Honorary pall bearers will be Ken Vanderwal, Pat Bonnell, his fellow Masons from Valley City Lodge and his fellow Shriners from the Saladin Shrine. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 9, 2012 at North Park Presbyterian Church, 500 North Park Street N.E. with Rev. Helen Havlik officiating. Interment In Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. If you would like to pay your respects to Robert, please visit the Reyers North Valley Chapel from 2-6 p.m. Sunday where a Masonic service will be held at 5:30 p.m., and one hour before the service at the church on Monday. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Shriners Childrens Hospital.
